DESCRIPTION:

Bergamot is a citrus fruit that resembles a lime in color.  The rind of the fruit is pressed for its essential oil.  Many people use bergamot as a perfume, however, it is well known for its uplifting and antidepressant properties making this a perfect oil to diffuse in your home, or drop behind your ears and on your wrists for a pleasant aroma experienced throughout the day.  This product is available in a 15 mL amber glass Euro bottle.

All Wellness Warrior essential oils are organic.

COMMON USES:

Bergamot is commonly used as a perfume and blends well with other oils. Bergamot is considered a "top note" for blending purposes.  Bergamot essential oil improves blood circulation, decreases depression and sadness, and stimulates hormonal secretions, helping to maintain proper metabolic rates.  Bergamot aids in digestion, prevents infections, reduces pain, relieves spasms, speeds wound healing, is relaxing, used as a deodorant, and helps to reduce fevers.  An uncommon, but effective property of bergamot is it's ability to kill worms, therefore making bergamot an oil to consider if parasites are an issue.  New research shows bergamot may have respiratory and digestive benefits not previously studied.  Some of the research shows bergamot as an effective essential oil eliminating the formation of gallstones and is protective against bronchitis, colic, diphtheria, and halitosis. This is an excellent oil to consider for international travel.

Aromatic – Add 3-4 drops of oil to distilled water and diffuse; inhale directly by cupping your hands around an open bottle and breathe in deeply through your nose.

Topical – Directly apply 1-3 drops of oil to the area of concern, the temples, or reflex points (this oil can be applied “neat” with no dilution, or dilute using a carrier oil for people with sensitive skin).  Please read the caution notes below regarding topical application.

Internal – Place 1-4 drops in a capsule and drink with a full glass of water, or add a few drops as a flavoring in cooking.  Please read the caution notes below regarding internal use of bergamot.

Oral - Using your finger, apply oil directly to the area of concern in the mouth.

Children – Safe for children over the age of six with proper dilution.

CAUTION:

Bergamot essential oil contains a constituent called bergaptene.  It is important to note, that some people respond to this constituent with more sensitivity than others, so the general rule is to avoid direct sunlight exposure for up to 12 hours after bergamot is applied to your skin topically.  There is some research showing if taking bergamot internally, direct exposure to the sun within 12 hours could cause phytotoxicity and a "sunburn" like effect on the skin.
